Your Freight Costs Are Being Impacted By Walmarts Otif Program Truck Inspections The Nmfc

LTL Shippers and Truckload Shippers alike need to know what's impacting their shipping rates. LTL Rates and Truckload Rates are all being affected by some recent developments in the business and government areas.

First, Walmart, like many retailers has rolled out their OTIF (On Time In Full) Program that punishes deliveries that are too early, too late, or incomplete. Any of these conditions means the shipper pays a fine to Walmart. And don't think you're off the hook if you don't do business with Walmart--plenty of other companies--big and small--are trying to increase the efficiency of their docks and inventory management with these sorts of programs.

Here's another important item to keep an eye on: recently, the state of Nebraska conducted a crackdown on trucks passing through the state and found that over 50% of the trucks they pulled over to inspect should have been taken off the road! Some of the drivers of trucks they inspected didn't even have CDLs! When enforcement is stepped up via ELDs in 2018, think about how many drivers and trucks might end up out of the market--and how that could drive up your LTL Rates and Truckload Rates!

Last but not least, the NMFC might seem arcane or uninteresting to you, but do you realize that carriers are consistently lobbying for NMFC reclassifications that, once again, cause you to pay higher LTL Rates and Truckload Rates?
