In this episode, having grown tired of waiting for rescue, my loneliness and isolation reach their peak, and I decide to begin building a sailboat to escape the island once and for all. Specifically, I start building a catamaran, for maximum stability on the open ocean, and to make sure that I can survive a months-long journey across the Pacific, I finally figure out how to make a solar seawater distiller and food dehydrator from natural materials, in addition to a pair of survey staffs and objective metric measuring tape for navigation, and even an analog trigonometric calculator. In spite of my meticulous preparations however, I receive a painful reminder that I can't plan for everything, and that I might not always be as clever as I think I am.
What happens when you trap an engineer on a deserted island? Using natural resources and principles from a wide range of scientific disciplines, I learn how to build all manner of tools and machines to survive and thrive while separated from civilization.
